Collection: Retinoblastoma
What is Retinoblastoma?
Retinoblastoma is a rare type of eye cancer that most commonly affects young children, but in some cases, it can also occur in adults. It develops in the retina, the light-sensitive lining at the back of the eye, and is often caused by a mutation in the RB1 gene—either inherited or acquired.
Early detection is crucial, as retinoblastoma can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. It may affect one or both eyes and, if left unchecked, can spread to other parts of the body.
Symptoms of Retinoblastoma
A white glow in the pupil (especially in photos taken with flash)
Crossed or misaligned eyes
Eye redness or swelling without infection
Vision problems or loss of vision
Enlarged pupil or a different color in one eye
Eye pain (in advanced cases)
